Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 3rd quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Malaysia totaled $763,160,409, up 27.60% ($165,066,564) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2021 totaled $328,853,887, up 91.47% ($157,103,754) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2021 totaled $434,306,522, up 1.87% ($7,962,810) from the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2021 was $105,452,635, a 58.58% decrease ($149,140,944) over the 3rd quarter of 2020.

Malaysia was Russia’s 45th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (down from 38th in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.3661% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4379% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

Malaysia was Russia’s 54th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (up from 55th in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.2465% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2184% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

Malaysia was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (down from 29th in the 3rd quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.5784% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.7361% in the 3rd quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2021 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 82.45% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (65.94% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.78% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (5.45% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.10% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (3.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.00% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (12.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.69% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (2.01% in the 3rd quarter of 2020);

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $160,147,694;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $10,819,763;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $4,478,487;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $3,613,820;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $2,539,949;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $1,332,316.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 3rd quarter of 2021 over the 3rd quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $11,718,157;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $2,378,488;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,725,005.
