Russia’s Trade with Cuba

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Cuba was $219,565,928, down 0.28% ($614,404) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2012 were $169,983,222, down 0.33% ($558,167) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Cuba in 2012 were $49,582,706, down 0.11% ($56,237) from 2011.

Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in 2012 was $120,400,516, a 0.42% decrease ($501,930) over 2011.

Cuba was Russia’s 94th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 96th in 2011), accounting for 0.0261% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0268% in 2011).

Cuba was Russia’s 90th largest export market in 2012 (down from 85th in 2011), accounting for 0.0324% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0330% in 2011).

Cuba was Russia’s 95th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 97th in 2011), accounting for 0.0156% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0162% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Cuba

The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 68.28% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (72.75% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 9.97% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (10.93% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.91% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (7.52% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.62% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (1.29% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.86% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (3.98% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $19,559,739;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $6,742,720;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $6,520,501;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $2,319,213;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $1,366,322;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $900,533;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $557,126;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $548,768.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $24,378,362;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $5,670,660;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $3,637,033;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $2,578,387;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,618,329;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $955,200.
