Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Malaysia was $1,746,697,150, down 9.71% ($187,912,598) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in 2012 were $275,921,949, down 33.92% ($141,634,332) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in 2012 were $1,470,775,201, down 3.05% ($46,278,266) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in 2012 was $1,194,853,252, a 8.67% increase ($95,356,066) over 2011.

Malaysia was Russia’s 53rd largest trading partner in 2012 (down from 49th in 2011), accounting for 0.2074% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2352% in 2011).

Malaysia was Russia’s 79th largest export market in 2012 (down from 73rd in 2011), accounting for 0.0526% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0808% in 2011).

Malaysia was Russia’s 34th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 35th in 2011), accounting for 0.4636% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.4962% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 49.52% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (68.41% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 31.46% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.17% in 2011);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.72% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (13.51% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.34% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (6.90% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.11% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (4.56% in 2011).

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $12,494,796;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $4,415,594;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $1,496,174;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,003,953.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $137,111,472;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $21,744,274;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $20,950,071;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $17,833,484;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $14,618,653;

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $5,112,177;

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 19.57% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (24.42% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.85% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (13.48% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.81% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (1.67% in 2011);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.42% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (1.51% in 2011).
