Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $493,654,710, down 5.36% ($27,977,996) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in 2012 were $96,851,633, down 26.68% ($35,250,777) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in 2012 totaled $396,803,077, up 1.87% ($7,272,781) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in 2012 was $299,951,444, a 16.52% increase ($42,523,558) over 2011.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 80th largest trading partner in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 0.0586% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0634% in 2011).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 100th largest export market in 2012 (down from 91st in 2011), accounting for 0.0185% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0256% in 2011).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 61st largest supplier in 2012 (down from 58th in 2011), accounting for 0.1251% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1274% in 2011).

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 52.95% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (4.84% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.90% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (16.27% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 15.98% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (70.21% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.84% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (8.50% in 2011).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $44,887,304;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $4,504,678;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $405,894;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $329,942.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $81,778,268;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $3,444,103.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:
