Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In 2012, Russia’s trade with Vietnam totaled $3,661,026,347, up 19.60% ($600,063,823) from 2011.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in 2012 totaled $1,388,541,016, up 3.73% ($49,881,251) from 2011.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in 2012 totaled $2,272,485,331, up 31.94% ($550,182,572) from 2011.

Russia’s trade deficit with Vietnam in 2012 was $883,944,315, a 130.41% increase ($500,301,321) over 2011.

Vietnam was Russia’s 34th largest trading partner in 2012 (up from 38th in 2011), accounting for 0.4348% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3722% in 2011).

Vietnam was Russia’s 49th largest export market in 2012 (just as in 2011), accounting for 0.2646% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2591% in 2011).

Vietnam was Russia’s 27th largest supplier in 2012 (up from 33rd in 2011), accounting for 0.7163% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5633% in 2011).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in 2012 (and in 2011) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 30.41% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (38.89% in 2011);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.70% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (14.93% in 2011);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.65% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (5.04% in 2011);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.02% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (2.40% in 2011);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.55% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (0.92% in 2011);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.11% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.16% in 2011).

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $12,622,993;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $10,768,779;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $10,266,547;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - an increase of $7,499,064.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in 2012 over 2011 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $147,100,289;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $31,340,720;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $29,832,021;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $23,952,958.
