In 2013, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $333,728,687, up 28.70% ($74,416,743) from 2012.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in 2013 totaled $199,160,913, up 58.11% ($73,198,466) from 2012.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in 2013 totaled $134,567,774, up 0.91% ($1,218,277) from 2012.

Russia’s trade balance with Kenya went from a deficit of $7,387,050 in 2012, to a surplus of $64,593,139 in 2013.

Kenya was Russia’s 91st largest trading partner in 2013 (down from 90th in 2012), accounting for 0.0396% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0308% in 2012).

Kenya was Russia’s 87th largest export market in 2013 (up from 95th in 2012), accounting for 0.0378% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0240% in 2012).

Kenya was Russia’s 79th largest supplier in 2013 (down from 78th in 2012), accounting for 0.0427% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0420% in 2012).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 60.45% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (48.38% in 2012);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 15.44% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (34.76% in 2012);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.58% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (5.60% in 2012);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.67% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (7.66% in 2012);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.46% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (3.21% in 2012);

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $3,781,613;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $3,682,786;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,726,270;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,401,068.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $13,273,076;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $1,462,981;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $1,197,905;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,085,490;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - a decrease of $947,541.

Russia’s Imports from Kenya

The major share of Russian imports from Kenya in 2013 (and in 2012) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.59% of Russia’s total imports from Kenya (99.81% in 2012).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in 2013 over 2012 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $1,382,670;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $955,548;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $420,836.
