Russia’s Trade with Cuba

In 2015, Russia’s trade with Cuba was $135,858,172, down 16.65% ($27,129,999) from 2014.

Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2015 were $87,346,434, down 13.68% ($13,843,053) from 2014.

Russia’s imports from Cuba in 2015 were $48,511,738, down 21.50% ($13,286,946) from 2014.

Russia’s trade surplus with Cuba in 2015 was $38,834,696, a 1.41% decrease ($556,107) over 2014.

Cuba was Russia’s 107th largest trading partner in 2015 (down from 103rd in 2014), accounting for 0.0258% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0208% in 2014).

Cuba was Russia’s 102nd largest export market in 2015 (down from 97th in 2014), accounting for 0.0254% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0204% in 2014).

Cuba was Russia’s 93rd largest supplier in 2015 (down from 91st in 2014), accounting for 0.0266% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0216% in 2014).

Russia’s Exports to Cuba

The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in 2015 (and in 2014) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 58.93% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (47.85% in 2014);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.24% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (14.38% in 2014);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.85% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (7.05% in 2014);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.92% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (6.21% in 2014);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 5.88% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (6.33% in 2014);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.60% of Russia’s total exports to Cuba (3.73% in 2014).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $6,941,163;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,628,110;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,252,688;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $2,007,631;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $446,957;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $413,513.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Cuba in 2015 over 2014 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $6,186,546;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $3,352,956;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $2,863,567;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $1,949,923;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $1,290,225;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $524,052;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $521,717;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $493,562;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - a decrease of $286,914.
