Russia's Trade with Canada

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Canada was $240,928,706, down 18.71% ($55,436,990) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $91,592,798, down 26.67% ($33,316,913) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $149,335,908, down 12.90% ($22,120,077) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $57,743,110, a 24.06% increase ($11,196,836) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Canada was Russia's 57th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 54th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.25% of Russia's total trade (up from 0.22% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Canada was Russia's 65th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 63rd in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.15% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.14% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Canada was Russia's 41st largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 36th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.42% of Russia's total imports (up from 0.41% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 38.91% of Russia's total exports to Canada (28.34% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 25.26% of Russia's total exports to Canada (24.81% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 8.35% of Russia's total exports to Canada (26.56% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.90% of Russia's total exports to Canada (3.71% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.50% of Russia's total exports to Canada (2.63% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.75% of Russia's total exports to Canada (1.29% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $1,895,502;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $335,882;
  • Other base metals; cermets; articles thereof (HS code 81) - an increase of $335,463.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $25,620,935;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $7,158,149;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $2,027,029;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,067,001;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $732,193;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $718,948;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $521,362;

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.80% of Russia's total imports from Canada (10.14% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 11.74% of Russia's total imports from Canada (10.18% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
