Russia's Trade with Australia

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Australia was $129,529,207, down 27.09% ($48,122,235) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $17,475,447, down 38.76% ($11,058,952) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Australia in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $112,053,760, down 24.86% ($37,063,283) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade deficit with Australia in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $94,578,313, a 21.57% decrease ($26,004,331) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

Australia was Russia's 70th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1331% of Russia's total trade (down from 0.1343% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Australia was Russia's 98th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 93rd in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0285% of Russia's total exports (down from 0.0316% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Australia was Russia's 49th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 44th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3118% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.3548% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.39% of Russia's total exports to Australia (44.66% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 16.20% of Russia's total exports to Australia (26.50% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.76% of Russia's total exports to Australia (9.16% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.52% of Russia's total exports to Australia (3.10% in the 1st quarter of 2015);

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $3,321,463;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $630,980;
  • Cocoa and cocoa preparations (HS code 18) - an increase of $127,487;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $59,999.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Australia in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $4,731,195;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $4,290,328;
