Russia's Trade with India

In the 1st quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with India was $1,514,800,164, down 19.33% ($362,896,080) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to India in the 1st quarter of 2016 were $948,100,047, down 28.87% ($384,802,013) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from India in the 1st quarter of 2016 totaled $566,700,117, up 4.02% ($21,905,933) from the 1st quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade surplus with India in the 1st quarter of 2016 was $381,399,930, a 51.61% decrease ($406,707,946) over the 1st quarter of 2015.

India was Russia's 17th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2016 (up from 18th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.5567% of Russia's total trade (up from 1.4193% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

India was Russia's 19th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2016 (down from 17th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.5450% of Russia's total exports (up from 1.4766% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

India was Russia's 14th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2016 (up from 19th in the 1st quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.5769% of Russia's total imports (up from 1.2961% in the 1st quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to India

The major share of Russian exports to India in the 1st quarter of 2016 (and in the 1st quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 28.47% of Russia's total exports to India (19.52% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 18.91% of Russia's total exports to India (19.28% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 17.76% of Russia's total exports to India (20.49% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.10% of Russia's total exports to India (4.71% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 6.89% of Russia's total exports to India (5.18% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.82% of Russia's total exports to India (6.23% in the 1st quarter of 2015);

  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $9,721,950;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - an increase of $9,505,482;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - an increase of $5,289,541;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,685,601;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $3,127,305.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to India in the 1st quarter of 2016 over the 1st quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $88,780,967;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $59,955,144;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $34,183,332;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $22,719,084;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $13,485,352;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $8,332,204.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 17.63% of Russia's total imports from India (15.72% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 16.44% of Russia's total imports from India (17.35% in the 1st quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.13% of Russia's total imports from India (5.17% in the 1st quarter of 2015).
