Russia's Trade with Cuba

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia's trade with Cuba was $30,032,201, down 44.48% ($24,064,553) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $27,729,777, down 2.48% ($705,679) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's imports from Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $2,302,424, down 91.03% ($23,358,874) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia's trade surplus with Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 was $25,427,353, a 816.58% increase ($22,653,195) over the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Cuba was Russia's 99th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 94th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0276% of Russia's total trade (down from 0.0397% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Cuba was Russia's 89th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 97th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0417% of Russia's total exports (up from 0.0311% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Cuba was Russia's 114th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 76th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0054% of Russia's total imports (down from 0.0573% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia's Exports to Cuba

The major share of Russian exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 69.30% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (44.70% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.41% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (2.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 8.21% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (6.64% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.52% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (19.14% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 3.63% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (4.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.00% of Russia's total exports to Cuba (17.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - an increase of $7,751,737;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $2,380,816;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $1,491,003;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $395,260;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $337,029;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $168,254;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $144,755;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $130,602;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $96,791.

The largest declines in Russia's exports to Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $5,063,584;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $4,095,717;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $2,695,765;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $397,426;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $283,113;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $205,620;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $169,954.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.61% of Russia's total imports from Cuba (99.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia's imports from Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $908,109;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $539,112;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $13,841.

The largest declines in Russia's imports from Cuba in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:
