Russia’s Trade with Vietnam

In the 2nd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Vietnam was $803,196,475, down 11.37% ($103,019,557) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 2nd quarter of 2016 were $230,354,964, down 56.43% ($298,307,700) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Vietnam in the 2nd quarter of 2016 totaled $572,841,511, up 51.72% ($195,288,143) from the 2nd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade with Vietnam went from a surplus of $151,109,296 in the 2nd quarter of 2015, to a deficit of $342,486,547 in the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Vietnam was Russia’s 27th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 28th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.7380% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.6647% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Vietnam was Russia’s 46th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (down from 34th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3467% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.5775% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Vietnam was Russia’s 19th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (up from 26th in the 2nd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.3513% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.8430% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Vietnam

The major share of Russian exports to Vietnam in the 2nd quarter of 2016 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 38.62% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (61.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 24.91% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (5.42% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 17.00% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.60% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (7.04% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.26% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (0.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.12% of Russia’s total exports to Vietnam (1.44% in the 2nd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Vietnam in the 2nd quarter of 2016 over the 2nd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $33,849,924;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $33,122,567;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $22,319,909;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $20,788,313;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $14,272,844;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $9,779,878;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $2,869,956;

  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $2,801,156;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $2,209,179;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,189,847;
  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - a decrease of $1,680,071;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $1,538,723;

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 16.05% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (17.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 15.13% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (18.84% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.23% of Russia’s total imports from Vietnam (2.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2015);
