Russia’s Trade with Brazil

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Brazil was $1,136,757,128, down 11.16% ($142,745,423) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $472,117,569, up 14.72% ($60,567,308) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $664,639,559, down 23.42% ($203,312,731) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $192,521,990, a 57.82% decrease ($263,880,039) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Brazil was Russia’s 24th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 21st in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.9324% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.0082% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia’s 35th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 34th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.6562% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.5175% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Brazil was Russia’s 16th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 1.3299% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.8315% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Brazil

The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes codes 28-40) - 70.27% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (89.63% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 23.34% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (7.68% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.46% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.44% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (0.70% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $81,340,759;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $6,507,000;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $3,725,241;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,607,076;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $3,231,827;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,547,917.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $19,963,017;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $18,897,024;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $2,757,560.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil

The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 89.03% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (88.93% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes codes 28-40) - 4.24% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (5.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.14% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (1.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.30% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.44% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $82,519,707;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $3,843,509;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $3,671,942;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $2,724,780;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $2,672,468;
  • Lac; gums, resins and other vegetable saps and extracts (HS code 13) - an increase of $2,514,804;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $2,052,600.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $240,788,616;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $29,990,403;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $18,104,023;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $14,260,310.
