Russia’s Trade with Belarus

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Belarus was $5,676,529,719, down 8.31% ($514,745,017) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Belarus in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $3,241,893,523, down 15.11% ($577,232,347) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Belarus in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $2,434,636,196, up 2.63% ($62,487,330) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Belarus in the 3rd quarter of 2016 was $807,257,327, a 44.21% decrease ($639,719,677) over the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Belarus was Russia’s 4th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 5th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 4.6558% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.8783% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Belarus was Russia’s 5th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 6th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 4.5061% of Russia’s total exports (down from 4.8024% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Belarus was Russia’s 5th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (down from 3rd in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 4.8714% of Russia’s total imports (down from 5.0057% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Belarus

The major share of Russian exports to Belarus in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 47.41% of Russia’s total exports to Belarus (57.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 13.08% of Russia’s total exports to Belarus (10.76% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.31% of Russia’s total exports to Belarus (10.53% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes codes 28-40) - 12.00% of Russia’s total exports to Belarus (9.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $21,896,032;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $14,493,700;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $10,440,700.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Belarus in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $571,993,256;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $106,185,278;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $30,066,243;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $14,870,602.
