Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 3rd quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $442,925,036, up 57.51% ($161,717,186) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 were $178,554,040, down 4.38% ($8,169,655) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 totaled $264,370,996, up 179.80% ($169,886,841) from the 3rd quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade with Norway went from a surplus of $92,239,540 in the 3rd quarter of 2015, to a deficit of $85,816,956 in the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Norway was Russia’s 46th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 58th in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3633% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2216% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 56th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2482% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2348% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (up from 53rd in the 3rd quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.5290% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1994% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 44.69% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (55.74% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 33.45% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (27.26% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.55% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.54% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (5.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.90% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.85% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.73% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.33% in the 3rd quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $6,006,828;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $4,671,272;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $3,725,357;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $3,023,241;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $1,501,247;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $1,287,534;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,166,734;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $863,708;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $777,616;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $711,583.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $28,793,994;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $835,331.

Russia’s Imports from Norway

The major share of Russian imports from Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.67% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (15.96% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 4.25% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (10.87% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.13% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (9.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.76% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (21.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2015);

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Norway in the 3rd quarter of 2016 over the 3rd quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:
