Russia’s Trade with Chile

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Chile was $178,506,003, down 1.16% ($2,090,859) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $11,361,340, up 5.84% ($626,519) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $167,144,663, down 1.60% ($2,717,378) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $155,783,323, a 2.10% decrease ($3,343,897) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Chile was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1310% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1381% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Chile was Russia’s 113th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 120th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0136% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0130% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Chile was Russia’s 45th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 42nd in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3188% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3514% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Chile

The major share of Russian exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 37.86% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (36.93% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 31.54% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (46.33% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 17.89% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (5.43% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.21% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.79% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.37% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (1.49% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.89% of Russia’s total exports to Chile (4.85% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $1,238,828;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $265,042;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $253,127;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $208,945;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $203,723;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - an increase of $124,738;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $123,520;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $105,000;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $95,273;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $72,174;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $51,066;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $44,108.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $921,195;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $560,517;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $288,600;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $133,456;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $112,373;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $41,407;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $35,270;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $34,348.

Russia’s Imports from Chile

The major share of Russian imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.37% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (95.49% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.39% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (2.53% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.41% of Russia’s total imports from Chile (1.04% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $18,506,344;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $5,892,220;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $2,940,611;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $1,826,269;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $1,105,071;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $595,522.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Chile in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $17,216,038;
  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - a decrease of $9,783,480;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $6,083,231;
  • Lac; gums, resins and other vegetable saps and extracts (HS code 13) - a decrease of $690,923.
