Russia’s Trade with Georgia

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Georgia totaled $241,565,792, up 9.38% ($20,709,231) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $171,737,200, up 4.60% ($7,549,442) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $69,828,592, up 23.22% ($13,159,789) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $101,908,608, a 5.22% decrease ($5,610,347) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Georgia was Russia’s 64th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 65th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1773% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1689% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Georgia was Russia’s 61st largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 58th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2048% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1992% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Georgia was Russia’s 63rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 64th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1332% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.1172% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Georgia

The major share of Russian exports to Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 38.49% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (48.86% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 21.09% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (8.87% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 20.22% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (24.48% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.61% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (8.47% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.79% of Russia’s total exports to Georgia (1.80% in the 4th quarter of 2015);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Georgia in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $3,229,400;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,945,008;
  • Railway or tramway locomotives, rolling-stock and parts thereof; railway or tramway track fixtures and fittings and parts thereof; mechanical (including electro-mechanical) traffic signalling equipment of all kinds (HS code 86) - a decrease of $1,520,527;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $1,237,489;

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 21.05% of Russia’s total imports from Georgia (10.25% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
