Russia’s Trade with Norway

In 2016, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $1,402,424,314, up 1.72% ($23,754,973) from 2015.

Russia’s exports to Norway in 2016 were $736,918,104, down 1.99% ($14,940,017) from 2015.

Russia’s imports from Norway in 2016 totaled $665,506,210, up 6.17% ($38,694,990) from 2015.

Russia’s trade surplus with Norway in 2016 was $71,411,894, a 42.89% decrease ($53,635,007) over 2015.

Norway was Russia’s 49th largest trading partner in 2016 (up from 51st in 2015), accounting for 0.2998% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2620% in 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 53rd largest export market in 2016 (up from 57th in 2015), accounting for 0.2581% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2188% in 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 43rd largest supplier in 2016 (down from 42nd in 2015), accounting for 0.3651% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.3431% in 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in 2016 (and in 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 48.04% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (58.10% in 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 30.52% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (24.40% in 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.03% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.36% in 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.29% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (4.67% in 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.28% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.18% in 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.94% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (1.95% in 2015).

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $12,259,861;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $9,385,367;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $8,725,513;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $5,540,557;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $5,291,163;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $4,210,118;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in 2016 over 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $77,917,966;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $4,628,900;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $4,549,671.
