Russia’s Trade with Norway

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Norway totaled $520,106,339, up 17.39% ($77,035,608) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $207,008,119, up 7.71% ($14,815,126) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $313,098,220, up 24.80% ($62,220,482) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $106,090,101, a 80.78% increase ($47,405,356) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Norway was Russia’s 46th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 48th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.3817% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.3388% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 54th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 55th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.2469% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2332% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Norway was Russia’s 32nd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 34th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.5972% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.5190% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Norway

The major share of Russian exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 50.50% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (51.49% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 32.09% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (26.74% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.58% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (3.46% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.51% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.29% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.16% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (6.93% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 2.02% of Russia’s total exports to Norway (2.10% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - an increase of $15,898,870;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $13,612,030;
  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - an increase of $7,197,258;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - an increase of $2,341,854;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $1,761,564;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $1,232,721;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $1,178,713;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $686,978.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $9,259,473;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $8,408,823;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $3,819,752;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $3,681,988;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,857,148;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $947,599;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $893,853;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $782,589.

Russia’s Imports from Norway

The major share of Russian imports from Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 86.77% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (85.79% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.57% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (5.50% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.17% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (2.80% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.03% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (2.02% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.48% of Russia’s total imports from Norway (2.69% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $1,291,643.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Norway in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $2,114,222;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - a decrease of $1,496,575;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $941,803.
