Russian trade with Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016

Russia’s Trade with Pakistan

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Pakistan totaled $82,625,470, up 23.12% ($15,518,460) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $38,633,596, up 58.10% ($14,196,764) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 totaled $43,991,874, up 3.10% ($1,321,696) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $5,358,278, a 70.61% decrease ($12,875,068) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Pakistan was Russia’s 90th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0606% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0513% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Pakistan was Russia’s 87th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (up from 100th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0461% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0296% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Pakistan was Russia’s 72nd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 68th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0839% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0883% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Pakistan

The major share of Russian exports to Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 45.19% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (32.62% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 21.62% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (32.82% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.61% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (17.29% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.51% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (11.90% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 8.95% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (1.11% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.71% of Russia’s total exports to Pakistan (3.39% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $10,136,515;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $2,496,117;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $2,294,497;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $688,672;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $638,719;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $411,558;
  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $266,177;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $251,722;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $245,897;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $199,803.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $1,881,207;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $492,859;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $432,444;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $297,214;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $201,674;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $119,262.

Russia’s Imports from Pakistan

The major share of Russian imports from Pakistan in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 69.58% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (64.72% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.48% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (7.70% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.12% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (15.42% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.20% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (3.71% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.18% of Russia’s total imports from Pakistan (0.29% in the 4th quarter of 2015);

  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $627,668;
  • Other made up textile articles; sets; worn clothing and worn textile articles; rags (HS code 63) - an increase of $557,509;

  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $223,101;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - a decrease of $200,425;
  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $135,388.
