Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 4th quarter of 2016, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $94,032,783, down 14.39% ($15,808,734) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $17,360,874, down 46.21% ($14,916,062) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 were $76,671,909, down 1.15% ($892,672) from the 4th quarter of 2015.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 was $59,311,035, a 30.97% increase ($14,023,390) over the 4th quarter of 2015.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 87th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 79th in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0690% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0840% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 105th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 91st in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.0207% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0392% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2016 (down from 61st in the 4th quarter of 2015), accounting for 0.1462% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1605% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 53.97% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (46.27% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 18.94% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (11.34% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 15.03% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (6.16% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.74% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (3.96% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.18% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (32.00% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - an increase of $698,960;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $593,343;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $285,775;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $220,415.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $10,297,703;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $5,156,071;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $737,082;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $656,870;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $630,565.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 (and in the 4th quarter of 2015) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 59.13% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (66.96% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 33.96% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (27.04% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.62% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (4.55% in the 4th quarter of 2015);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 0.93% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (1.17% in the 4th quarter of 2015).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 4th quarter of 2016 over the 4th quarter of 2015 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $6,795,948;
  • Other vegetable textile fibers; paper yarn and woven fabric of paper yarn (HS code 53) - a decrease of $792,348;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $275,587.
