Russia’s Trade with Costa Rica

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Costa Rica totaled $24,663,854, up 0.51% ($124,046) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 were $4,636,316, down 53.95% ($5,430,809) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $20,027,538, up 38.38% ($5,554,855) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $15,391,222, a 249.36% increase ($10,985,664) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Costa Rica was Russia’s 111th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 108th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0192% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0253% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 121st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (down from 109th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0056% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0164% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Costa Rica was Russia’s 85th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 87th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0443% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0404% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Costa Rica

The major share of Russian exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 46.25% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 27.35% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (1.05% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 22.72% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (95.22% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.59% of Russia’s total exports to Costa Rica (0.00% in the 1st quarter of 2016);

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $61,220;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $59,076;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - an increase of $34,500.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $8,587,428;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $283,028;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $107,537;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $44,686.

Russia’s Imports from Costa Rica

The major share of Russian imports from Costa Rica in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 63.25% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (70.27% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 33.56% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (25.94% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.98% of Russia’s total imports from Costa Rica (2.68% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
