Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Canada totaled $459,018,757, up 73.52% ($194,485,841) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $139,225,036, up 47.18% ($44,630,883) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $319,793,721, up 88.18% ($149,854,958) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $180,568,685, a 139.66% increase ($105,224,075) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Canada was Russia’s 47th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 53rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3284% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2431% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 62nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 63rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1658% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1424% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 33rd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 43rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.5733% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4009% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 50.93% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (46.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 17.31% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (31.17% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.54% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (5.21% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.29% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (9.35% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.78% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (5.06% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.32% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (1.92% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).
