Russia’s Trade with France

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with France totaled $3,792,382,659, up 46.63% ($1,205,947,936) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $1,336,636,525, up 24.89% ($266,420,878) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $2,455,746,134, up 61.97% ($939,527,058) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $1,119,109,609, a 150.92% increase ($673,106,180) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

France was Russia’s 12th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 2.7135% of Russia’s total trade (up from 2.3764% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

France was Russia’s 17th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.5918% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.6106% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

France was Russia’s 5th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 7th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 4.4022% of Russia’s total imports (up from 3.5767% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to France

The major share of Russian exports to France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 84.02% of Russia’s total exports to France (83.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 4.98% of Russia’s total exports to France (2.76% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.83% of Russia’s total exports to France (6.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 1.70% of Russia’s total exports to France (3.31% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.60% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 0.37% of Russia’s total exports to France (1.28% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $222,754,955;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $20,377,202;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $19,461,448;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $6,577,232.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to France in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $12,396,910;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - a decrease of $7,432,251;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $6,975,540;
  • Residues and waste from the food industries; prepared animal feed (HS code 23) - a decrease of $5,070,286;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $4,829,331.

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 25.09% of Russia’s total imports from France (38.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.62% of Russia’s total imports from France (9.32% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.65% of Russia’s total imports from France (3.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
