Russia’s Trade with Tanzania

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Tanzania totaled $47,184,807, up 77.87% ($20,656,569) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $29,801,792, up 113.24% ($15,826,209) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Tanzania in the 2nd quarter of 2017 totaled $17,383,015, up 38.48% ($4,830,360) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tanzania in the 2nd quarter of 2017 was $12,418,777, a 772.76% increase ($10,995,849) over the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Tanzania was Russia’s 100th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 102nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0338% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0244% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Tanzania was Russia’s 95th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 100th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0355% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0210% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Tanzania was Russia’s 88th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (up from 89th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0312% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0296% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Tanzania

The major share of Russian exports to Tanzania in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 90.70% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (78.21% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.85% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (5.03% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.91% of Russia’s total exports to Tanzania (7.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $16,314,026;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $743,594;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $114,187;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $106,520.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tanzania in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $429,823;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - a decrease of $401,596;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $341,151;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $133,790.
