Russia’s Trade with Turkmenistan

In the 2nd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Turkmenistan was $105,200,993, down 75.62% ($326,315,447) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $81,111,706, down 55.50% ($101,176,604) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 were $24,089,287, down 90.33% ($225,138,843) from the 2nd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade balance with Turkmenistan went from a deficit of $66,939,820 in the 2nd quarter of 2016, to a surplus of $57,022,419 in the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 82nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 42nd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0753% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.3965% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 75th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 50th in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0966% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2743% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 84th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (down from 33rd in the 2nd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0432% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.5879% in the 2nd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Turkmenistan

The major share of Russian exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 29.22% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (16.84% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 22.19% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (13.46% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 18.59% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (7.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 14.32% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (7.12% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.61% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (51.69% in the 2nd quarter of 2016);

  • Impregnated, coated, covered or laminated textile fabrics; textile articles of a kind suitable for industrial use (HS code 59) - an increase of $463,494;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - an increase of $338,234;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $332,214;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $326,018;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $267,443.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 2nd quarter of 2017 over the 2nd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,680,249;
