Russia’s Trade with Venezuela

In the 3rd quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Venezuela was $24,520,960, down 74.14% ($70,288,451) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 were $24,299,136, down 74.32% ($70,321,547) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 totaled $221,824, up 17.54% ($33,096) from the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 was $24,077,312, a 74.50% decrease ($70,354,643) over the 3rd quarter of 2016.

Venezuela was Russia’s 114th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 81st in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0168% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0778% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Venezuela was Russia’s 101st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 69th in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0285% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1315% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Venezuela was Russia’s 146th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (down from 142nd in the 3rd quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0004% of Russia’s total imports (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Venezuela

The major share of Russian exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 81.50% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (0.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 15.40% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (66.67% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.24% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (16.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.81% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (4.78% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 0.04% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (11.03% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $19,766,570;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $1,000,354;
  • Organic chemicals (HS code 29) - an increase of $112,158.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2017 over the 3rd quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $33,656,441;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $16,162,654;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $12,103,361;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $10,521,601;
  • Printed books, newspapers, pictures and other products of the printing industry; manuscripts, typescripts and plans (HS code 49) - a decrease of $10,441,011;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $3,355,466;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $2,746,333;
  • Explosives; pyrotechnic products; matches; pyrophoric alloys; certain combustible preparations (HS code 36) - a decrease of $690,421;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $375,539;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $363,221;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - a decrease of $122,075.

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 79.96% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (96.55% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.92% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (0.00% in the 3rd quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 8.75% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (2.54% in the 3rd quarter of 2016).
