Russia’s Trade with Algeria

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Algeria totaled $1,735,246,234, up 8.01% ($128,743,498) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $1,733,194,070, up 8.03% ($128,875,644) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $2,052,164, down 6.05% ($132,146) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade surplus with Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $1,731,141,906, a 8.05% increase ($129,007,790) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Algeria was Russia’s 22nd largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 19th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.0382% of Russia’s total trade (down from 1.1789% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Algeria was Russia’s 17th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 16th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.6849% of Russia’s total exports (down from 1.9136% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Algeria was Russia’s 119th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 116th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.0032% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0042% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Algeria

The major share of Russian exports to Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 23.66% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (39.98% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.94% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (2.67% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.38% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (3.71% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.59% of Russia’s total exports to Algeria (1.38% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $119,476,924;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $99,951,487;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $5,496,209.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $283,276,290;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $28,156,407;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $19,857,305;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $7,118,234;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $5,649,089.

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.56% of Russia’s total imports from Algeria (8.32% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Algeria in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Preparations of vegetables, fruit, nuts or other parts of plants (HS code 20) - an increase of $29,061;
