Russia’s Trade with Malaysia

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Malaysia was $641,804,303, down 3.46% ($23,016,178) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 were $125,202,418, down 58.97% ($179,910,689) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $516,601,885, up 43.62% ($156,894,511) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $391,399,467, a 616.92% increase ($336,805,200) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

Malaysia was Russia’s 44th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 40th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.3840% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.4879% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Malaysia was Russia’s 68th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 45th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1217% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.3639% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Malaysia was Russia’s 31st largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 29th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.8037% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.6860% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Malaysia

The major share of Russian exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 52.02% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (83.63% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 26.49% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (6.01% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 10.30% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (2.08% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 3.82% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.10% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.26% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (5.53% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.17% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (1.60% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 1.56% of Russia’s total exports to Malaysia (0.00% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $15,281,155;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $8,249,228;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $2,858,808;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $1,945,287;
  • Pulp of wood or of other fibrous cellulosic material; waste and scrap of paper or paperboard (HS code 47) - an increase of $997,105;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $611,663.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $192,888,868;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $10,831,364;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $2,083,079;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $1,783,546;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $1,352,847;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $628,098;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $380,092.

Russia’s Imports from Malaysia

The major share of Russian imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 74.59% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (63.66% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.55% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (15.70% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 9.87% of Russia’s total imports from Malaysia (16.93% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Malaysia in the 4th quarter of 2017 over the 4th quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
