Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 4th quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with the US totaled $6,647,738,712, up 9.34% ($568,059,815) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $3,120,591,597, up 5.91% ($174,161,982) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 4th quarter of 2017 totaled $3,527,147,115, up 12.57% ($393,897,833) from the 4th quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with the US in the 4th quarter of 2017 was $406,555,518, a 117.62% increase ($219,735,851) over the 4th quarter of 2016.

The US was Russia’s 6th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 5th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.9772% of Russia’s total trade (down from 4.4615% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The US was Russia’s 9th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2017 (down from 7th in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 3.0337% of Russia’s total exports (down from 3.5145% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

The US was Russia’s 3rd largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2017 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2016), accounting for 5.4872% of Russia’s total imports (down from 5.9759% in the 4th quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2017 (and in the 4th quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 40.72% of Russia’s total exports to the US (29.13% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 27.35% of Russia’s total exports to the US (37.46% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.34% of Russia’s total exports to the US (13.41% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 7.77% of Russia’s total exports to the US (7.23% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 7.63% of Russia’s total exports to the US (5.38% in the 4th quarter of 2016);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.45% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.49% in the 4th quarter of 2016).
