Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 1st quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Canada was $266,066,246, down 28.92% ($108,258,631) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $96,409,000, down 2.30% ($2,273,770) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 1st quarter of 2018 were $169,657,246, down 38.45% ($105,984,861) from the 1st quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Canada in the 1st quarter of 2018 was $73,248,246, a 58.61% decrease ($103,711,091) over the 1st quarter of 2017.

Canada was Russia’s 65th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 51st in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1688% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2912% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Canada was Russia’s 71st largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 65th in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0936% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1184% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Canada was Russia’s 46th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2018 (down from 33rd in the 1st quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.3107% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.6096% in the 1st quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2018 (and in the 1st quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 39.48% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (30.61% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 26.97% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (17.49% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.24% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (29.18% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.80% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (5.69% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.56% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (6.20% in the 1st quarter of 2017);
