Russia’s Trade with Abkhazia

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Abkhazia was $55,962,456, down 15.69% ($10,410,676) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $43,073,341, down 20.41% ($11,046,825) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Abkhazia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $12,889,115, up 5.19% ($636,149) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Abkhazia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $30,184,226, a 27.90% decrease ($11,682,974) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Abkhazia was Russia’s 94th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 95th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0327% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0475% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 92nd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 84th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0391% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0644% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Abkhazia was Russia’s 91st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 92nd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0212% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0220% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Abkhazia

The major share of Russian exports to Abkhazia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 38.28% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (32.57% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 18.55% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (32.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 12.32% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (10.40% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 10.29% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (8.02% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 6.26% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (5.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.28% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (4.55% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.66% of Russia’s total exports to Abkhazia (0.39% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

  • Man-made filaments (HS code 54) - an increase of $264,506;
  • Miscellaneous edible preparations (HS code 21) - an increase of $185,429;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $161,841;
  • Miscellaneous articles of base metal (HS code 83) - an increase of $147,785;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $142,182.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Abkhazia in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $9,420,400;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - a decrease of $849,578;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $785,737;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $452,428;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $378,714;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $300,078;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $273,482;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $240,560;
  • Ceramic products (HS code 69) - a decrease of $221,941;
  • Tanning or dyeing extracts; dyes, pigments, paints, varnishes, putty and mastics (HS code 32) - a decrease of $137,820;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $135,666.
