Russia’s Trade with Hong Kong

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Hong Kong totaled $441,153,202, up 75.32% ($189,519,491) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $301,703,171, up 52.56% ($103,944,083) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $139,450,031, up 158.84% ($85,575,408) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $162,253,140, a 12.77% increase ($18,368,675) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Hong Kong was Russia’s 52nd largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 63rd in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2581% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1801% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 49th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (just as in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2738% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.2355% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 52nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 68th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.2297% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0966% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Hong Kong

The major share of Russian exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 47.16% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (52.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 24.44% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (0.07% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 11.19% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (13.83% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.78% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (15.94% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.47% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (11.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.86% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (1.11% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $72,766,741;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $38,129,266;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $6,381,220.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ships, boats and floating structures (HS code 89) - a decrease of $3,680,000;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $2,954,312;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $2,644,008;
  • Products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 05) - a decrease of $2,458,302;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $2,308,959;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $1,581,448.

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.85% of Russia’s total imports from Hong Kong (3.61% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
