Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Iceland was $8,668,482, down 16.26% ($1,683,339) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $3,201,862, down 13.89% ($516,398) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 were $5,466,620, down 17.59% ($1,166,941) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 was $2,264,758, a 22.31% decrease ($650,543) over the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Iceland was Russia’s 138th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 129th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0051% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0074% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Iceland was Russia’s 140th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 131st in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0029% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0044% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Iceland was Russia’s 105th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 98th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0090% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0119% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 29.88% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (8.67% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 24.07% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (2.08% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 21.17% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (10.80% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 14.11% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (7.09% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.40% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (48.36% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 2.35% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (13.62% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.00% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (6.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $693,544;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $665,726;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $276,234;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $167,190;
  • Furniture; bedding, mattresses, mattress supports, cushions and similar stuffed furnishings; lamps and lighting fittings, not elsewhere specified or included; illuminated sign illuminated nameplates and the like; prefabricated buildings (HS code 94) - an increase of $74,700;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $53,647;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $19,384;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $17,089;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, not knitted or crocheted (HS code 62) - an increase of $16,960;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $10,391;
  • Soap, organic surface-active agents, washing preparations, lubricating preparations, artificial waxes, prepared waxes, polishing or scouring preparations, candles and similar articles, modeling pastes, "dental waxes" and dental preparations with a basis of plaster (HS code 34) - an increase of $9,851.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $1,727,600;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $484,874;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $249,787;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $31,557;
  • Glass and glassware (HS code 70) - a decrease of $26,783.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 60.03% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (26.53% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 18.32% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (1.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 17.51% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (55.59% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.11% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (15.82% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.02% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (0.15% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $156,703;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - an increase of $88,944;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $45,014;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $37,875;

  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $881,723;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $563,334;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $260,624;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - a decrease of $98,477.
