Russia’s Trade with the Philippines

In the 2nd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with the Philippines totaled $299,900,586, up 140.68% ($175,294,076) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $197,655,852, up 552.65% ($167,370,707) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 totaled $102,244,734, up 8.40% ($7,923,369) from the 2nd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade balance with the Philippines went from a deficit of $64,036,220 in the 2nd quarter of 2017, to a surplus of $95,411,118 in the 2nd quarter of 2018.

The Philippines was Russia’s 65th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 74th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1755% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0892% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The Philippines was Russia’s 60th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (up from 94th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1794% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0361% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The Philippines was Russia’s 61st largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (down from 59th in the 2nd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1684% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1691% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to the Philippines

The major share of Russian exports to the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 65.09% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (62.86% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 20.15% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (0.43% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.21% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (10.63% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 4.37% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (20.54% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.52% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (3.33% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 0.61% of Russia’s total exports to the Philippines (2.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $109,355,932;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $39,673,704;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $10,912,699;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,715,725;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $2,084,173;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $1,857,133.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

Russia’s Imports from the Philippines

The major share of Russian imports from the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 84.09% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (81.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 8.80% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (8.99% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 3.26% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (3.79% in the 2nd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 2.37% of Russia’s total imports from the Philippines (3.85% in the 2nd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - an increase of $929,933;
  • Lac; gums, resins and other vegetable saps and extracts (HS code 13) - an increase of $652,840;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $561,398;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $429,290;
  • Essential oils and resinoids; perfumery, cosmetic or toilet preparations (HS code 33) - an increase of $419,062;

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from the Philippines in the 2nd quarter of 2018 over the 2nd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,864,576;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - a decrease of $1,368,330;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $446,991.
