Russia’s Trade with Kenya

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Kenya totaled $107,824,414, up 5.38% ($5,506,058) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $70,997,082, up 2.26% ($1,570,595) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $36,827,332, up 11.96% ($3,935,463) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $34,169,750, a 6.47% decrease ($2,364,868) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Kenya was Russia’s 84th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 81st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0627% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0700% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 83rd largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 78th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0633% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0813% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Kenya was Russia’s 80th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 77th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0615% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0541% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Kenya

The major share of Russian exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 86.22% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (82.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 6.81% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (3.52% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 4.01% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (2.02% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.30% of Russia’s total exports to Kenya (10.82% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $3,606,563;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $2,542,668;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $1,444,881;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $386,442.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $3,205,515;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - a decrease of $2,666,868;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - a decrease of $271,770.

Russia’s Imports from Kenya

The major share of Russian imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 99.43% of Russia’s total imports from Kenya (99.48% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - an increase of $5,503,462;
  • Edible fruit and nuts; peel of citrus fruit or melons (HS code 08) - an increase of $1,548,639;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - an increase of $325,076.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Kenya in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Live trees and other plants; bulbs, roots and the like; cut flowers and ornamental foliage (HS code 06) - a decrease of $2,942,836;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $553,426.
