Russia’s Trade with Sri Lanka

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Sri Lanka was $86,458,493, down 17.53% ($18,377,753) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $12,608,033, down 50.46% ($12,841,733) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $73,850,460, down 6.97% ($5,536,020) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade deficit with Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $61,242,427, a 13.54% increase ($7,305,713) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 88th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 80th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0502% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0717% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 115th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 97th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0112% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0298% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Sri Lanka was Russia’s 62nd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 60th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1233% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.1305% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 45.54% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (17.24% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 20.69% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (8.04% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 14.72% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (71.41% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 13.67% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (2.66% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 2.38% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (0.50% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.43% of Russia’s total exports to Sri Lanka (0.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,413,338;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $1,125,272;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $691,101;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $390,694;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $155,842;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $145,498.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $16,154,860;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $511,305;
  • Coffee, tea, maté and spices (HS code 09) - a decrease of $116,270;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $78,568;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $40,740.

Russia’s Imports from Sri Lanka

The major share of Russian imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 51.13% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (54.62% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 39.91% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (38.61% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.14% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (5.79% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.43% of Russia’s total imports from Sri Lanka (0.56% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Sri Lanka in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - an increase of $747,403;
