Russia’s Trade with Tajikistan

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Tajikistan totaled $212,528,892, up 32.51% ($52,147,414) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $203,205,895, up 30.06% ($46,966,970) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $9,322,997, up 125.05% ($5,180,444) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $193,882,898, a 27.47% increase ($41,786,526) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Tajikistan was Russia’s 74th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 71st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1235% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.1097% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 59th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 61st in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.1811% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1830% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Tajikistan was Russia’s 96th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 111th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0156% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0068% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Tajikistan

The major share of Russian exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 25.23% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (26.31% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 18.07% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (7.12% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 17.06% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (24.38% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.76% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (17.98% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 11.59% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (9.50% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 7.60% of Russia’s total exports to Tajikistan (10.15% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $14,912,144;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $10,377,851;
  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - an increase of $6,573,185;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $5,394,644;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $5,043,693;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $4,406,314;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $2,543,852;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $1,461,875;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $911,704;
  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $757,727.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Tajikistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Sugars and sugar confectionery (HS code 17) - a decrease of $2,456,159;
  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $1,404,106;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $1,293,297;
  • Dairy produce; birds eggs; natural honey; edible products of animal origin, not elsewhere specified or included (HS code 04) - a decrease of $886,678;
  • Products of the milling industry; malt; starches; inulin; wheat gluten (HS code 11) - a decrease of $721,730.
