Russia’s Trade with Turkmenistan

In the 3rd quarter of 2018, Russia’s trade with Turkmenistan was $88,381,329, down 1.67% ($1,496,735) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 were $61,674,039, down 11.56% ($8,061,878) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s imports from Turkmenistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 totaled $26,707,290, up 32.59% ($6,565,143) from the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Russia’s trade surplus with Turkmenistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 was $34,966,749, a 29.49% decrease ($14,627,021) over the 3rd quarter of 2017.

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 86th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 84th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0514% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0615% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 85th largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (down from 77th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0550% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0817% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Turkmenistan was Russia’s 83rd largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (up from 85th in the 3rd quarter of 2017), accounting for 0.0446% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0331% in the 3rd quarter of 2017).

Russia’s Exports to Turkmenistan

The major share of Russian exports to Turkmenistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2017) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 38.67% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (36.58% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 22.93% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (29.81% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 21.29% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (6.97% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 9.28% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (8.14% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.22% of Russia’s total exports to Turkmenistan (13.22% in the 3rd quarter of 2017);

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Turkmenistan in the 3rd quarter of 2018 over the 3rd quarter of 2017 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Miscellaneous chemical products (HS code 38) - a decrease of $2,853,367;
