Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In the 1st quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $14,103,132, up 73.44% ($5,971,896) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $4,667,974, up 52.64% ($1,609,765) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 totaled $9,435,158, up 85.99% ($4,362,131) from the 1st quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 was $4,767,184, a 136.61% increase ($2,752,366) over the 1st quarter of 2018.

Iceland was Russia’s 126th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 135th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0090% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0052% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Iceland was Russia’s 137th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2019 (down from 136th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0045% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0030% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Iceland was Russia’s 94th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2019 (up from 105th in the 1st quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0178% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0093% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 70.73% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (0.12% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 10.62% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (41.17% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 8.71% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (3.34% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 5.03% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (21.23% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 3.78% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (32.00% in the 1st quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $3,283,520;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - an increase of $340,113;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $158,899;
  • Articles of stone, plaster, cement, asbestos, mica or similar materials (HS code 68) - an increase of $15,357.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 over the 1st quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $962,806;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $703,717;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - a decrease of $414,413;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - a decrease of $59,609;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $24,024;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - a decrease of $17,699;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $14,919.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in the 1st quarter of 2019 (and in the 1st quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 48.11% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (65.68% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 32.08% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (20.70% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 12.07% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (8.92% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 7.31% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (2.52% in the 1st quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 0.43% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (1.36% in the 1st quarter of 2018).
