Russia’s Trade with Australia

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Australia was $203,051,928, down 11.82% ($27,215,202) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $31,943,987, down 30.86% ($14,261,121) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $171,107,941, down 7.04% ($12,954,081) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade deficit with Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $139,163,954, a 0.95% increase ($1,307,040) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Australia was Russia’s 69th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 74th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.1268% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.1347% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Australia was Russia’s 93rd largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 90th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0317% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0419% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Australia was Russia’s 49th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 50th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2884% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.3032% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Australia

The major share of Russian exports to Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 38.00% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (50.69% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 31.68% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (25.21% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 14.97% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (12.13% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 5.71% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (5.14% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.97% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (3.89% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 1.66% of Russia’s total exports to Australia (1.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - an increase of $167,710;
  • Toys, games and sports requisites; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 95) - an increase of $128,066;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - an increase of $102,100.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Australia in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
