Russia’s Trade with Hong Kong

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Hong Kong was $377,507,829, down 14.43% ($63,645,373) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $247,997,330, down 17.80% ($53,705,841) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $129,510,499, down 7.13% ($9,939,532) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 was $118,486,831, a 26.97% decrease ($43,766,309) over the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Hong Kong was Russia’s 59th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 52nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2358% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.2581% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 54th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 49th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2461% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.2738% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Hong Kong was Russia’s 55th largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 52nd in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.2183% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.2297% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Hong Kong

The major share of Russian exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 64.97% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (47.16% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 12.65% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (6.78% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 11.02% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (11.19% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 7.81% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (6.47% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.04% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (0.26% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 0.81% of Russia’s total exports to Hong Kong (24.44% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - an increase of $18,833,915;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $15,427,157;
  • Articles of apparel and clothing accessories, knitted or crocheted (HS code 61) - an increase of $1,359,470;
  • Preparations of meat, of fish or of crustaceans, molluscs or other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 16) - an increase of $993,975.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Hong Kong in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Iron and steel (HS code 72) - a decrease of $72,040,967;
  • Raw hides and skins (other than furskins) and leather (HS code 41) - a decrease of $6,774,844;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - a decrease of $6,453,078;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - a decrease of $3,254,632;
  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $2,518,775;
  • Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - a decrease of $1,463,553.
