Russia’s Trade with Mozambique

In the 2nd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Mozambique was $7,966,588, down 31.29% ($3,627,377) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Mozambique in the 2nd quarter of 2019 were $217,619, down 96.83% ($6,649,251) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Mozambique in the 2nd quarter of 2019 totaled $7,748,969, up 63.93% ($3,021,874) from the 2nd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade balance with Mozambique went from a surplus of $2,139,775 in the 2nd quarter of 2018, to a deficit of $7,531,350 in the 2nd quarter of 2019.

Mozambique was Russia’s 140th largest trading partner in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 131st in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0050% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.0068% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mozambique was Russia’s 164th largest export market in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (down from 126th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0002% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0062% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Mozambique was Russia’s 102nd largest supplier in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (up from 107th in the 2nd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0131% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0078% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Mozambique

The major share of Russian exports to Mozambique in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 56.00% of Russia’s total exports to Mozambique (4.10% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);

  • Meat and edible meat offal (HS code 02) - a decrease of $21,107;
  • Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - a decrease of $18,415;
  • Tools, implements, cutlery, spoons and forks, of base metal; parts thereof of base metal (HS code 82) - a decrease of $18,370;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - a decrease of $6,641;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $2,061;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $1,873;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - a decrease of $1,080.

Russia’s Imports from Mozambique

The major share of Russian imports from Mozambique in the 2nd quarter of 2019 (and in the 2nd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.54% of Russia’s total imports from Mozambique (99.30% in the 2nd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 2.46% of Russia’s total imports from Mozambique (0.66% in the 2nd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Mozambique in the 2nd quarter of 2019 over the 2nd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - an increase of $3,166,987;
  • Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - an increase of $159,415.
