Russia’s Trade with Venezuela

In the 3rd quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with Venezuela totaled $30,085,553, up 19.96% ($5,004,991) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $29,773,317, up 19.44% ($4,846,790) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 totaled $312,236, up 102.70% ($158,201) from the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 was $29,461,081, a 18.93% increase ($4,688,589) over the 3rd quarter of 2018.

Venezuela was Russia’s 117th largest trading partner in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 121st in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0181% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0146% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Venezuela was Russia’s 101st largest export market in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (up from 103rd in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0288% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.0222% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Venezuela was Russia’s 145th largest supplier in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (just as in the 3rd quarter of 2018), accounting for 0.0005% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0003% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to Venezuela

The major share of Russian exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 51.68% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (96.30% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 44.24% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (1.09% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 1.24% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (1.60% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.08% of Russia’s total exports to Venezuela (0.10% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - an increase of $1,012,109;
  • Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $270,889;
  • Plastics and articles thereof (HS code 39) - an increase of $155,958;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $130,254;
  • Edible vegetables and certain roots and tubers (HS code 07) - an increase of $124,473.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Animal or vegetable fats and oils and their cleavage products prepared edible fats; animal or vegetable waxes (HS code 15) - a decrease of $10,719,629;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $3,671,737;
  • Natural or cultured pearls, precious or semi-precious stones,precious metals, metals clad with precious metal and articles thereof; imitation jewelry; coin (HS code 71) - a decrease of $125,594.

Russia’s Imports from Venezuela

The major share of Russian imports from Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 (and in the 3rd quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 98.02% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (73.40% in the 3rd quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 1.21% of Russia’s total imports from Venezuela (8.13% in the 3rd quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Beverages, spirits and vinegar (HS code 22) - an increase of $251,652;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,737.

The largest declines in Russia’s imports from Venezuela in the 3rd quarter of 2019 over the 3rd quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
