Russia’s Trade with the US

In the 4th quarter of 2019, Russia’s trade with the US was $6,859,998,653, down 2.51% ($176,696,106) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 were $3,587,566,369, down 8.32% ($325,437,329) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s imports from the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 totaled $3,272,432,284, up 4.76% ($148,741,223) from the 4th quarter of 2018.

Russia’s trade surplus with the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 was $315,134,085, a 60.07% decrease ($474,178,552) over the 4th quarter of 2018.

The US was Russia’s 6th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2019 (up from 7th in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.8139% of Russia’s total trade (up from 3.7662% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The US was Russia’s 9th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2019 (just as in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 3.2077% of Russia’s total exports (up from 3.1432% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The US was Russia’s 4th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2019 (down from 3rd in the 4th quarter of 2018), accounting for 4.8105% of Russia’s total imports (down from 5.0104% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

Russia’s Exports to the US

The major share of Russian exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 (and in the 4th quarter of 2018) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 57.85% of Russia’s total exports to the US (41.21% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Precious metals and stones (HS code 71) - 10.80% of Russia’s total exports to the US (10.69% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 10.79% of Russia’s total exports to the US (19.06% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 10.42% of Russia’s total exports to the US (17.39% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 5.47% of Russia’s total exports to the US (6.76% in the 4th quarter of 2018);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.48% of Russia’s total exports to the US (1.71% in the 4th quarter of 2018).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $458,629,120;
  • Aluminum and articles thereof (HS code 76) - an increase of $45,277,413;
  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $10,819,930.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to the US in the 4th quarter of 2019 over the 4th quarter of 2018 were recorded for the following product groups:
