Russia’s Trade with Ukraine

In the 1st quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Ukraine totaled $2,403,079,551, up 31.79% ($579,641,766) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2021 totaled $1,596,574,787, up 68.61% ($649,687,976) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2021 were $806,504,764, down 7.99% ($70,046,210) from the 1st quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2021 was $790,070,023, a 1,023.28% increase ($719,734,186) over the 1st quarter of 2020.

Ukraine was Russia’s 15th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 17th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 1.5548% of Russia’s total trade (up from 1.2829% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Ukraine was Russia’s 16th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2021 (up from 21st in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 1.7306% of Russia’s total exports (up from 1.0641% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Ukraine was Russia’s 17th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2021 (down from 13th in the 1st quarter of 2020), accounting for 1.2946% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.6490% in the 1st quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Ukraine

The major share of Russian exports to Ukraine in the 1st quarter of 2021 (and in the 1st quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 41.77% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (13.17% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 19.79% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (27.59% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 11.89% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (18.83% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 9.51% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (15.25% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.30% of Russia’s total exports to Ukraine (11.66% in the 1st quarter of 2020);
