Russia’s Trade with Nigeria

In the 4th quarter of 2021, Russia’s trade with Nigeria totaled $329,358,643, up 175.78% ($209,930,739) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 totaled $319,737,006, up 189.25% ($209,198,222) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 totaled $9,621,637, up 8.24% ($732,517) from the 4th quarter of 2020.

Russia’s trade surplus with Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 was $310,115,369, a 205.08% increase ($208,465,705) over the 4th quarter of 2020.

Nigeria was Russia’s 70th largest trading partner in the 4th quarter of 2021 (up from 84th in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.1417% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0737% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Nigeria was Russia’s 57th largest export market in the 4th quarter of 2021 (up from 71st in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.2123% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.1171% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Nigeria was Russia’s 104th largest supplier in the 4th quarter of 2021 (down from 103rd in the 4th quarter of 2020), accounting for 0.0118% of Russia’s total imports (down from 0.0131% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

Russia’s Exports to Nigeria

The major share of Russian exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 (and in the 4th quarter of 2020) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 84.53% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (3.70% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 6.36% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (62.76% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 5.25% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (17.42% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 1.85% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (0.27% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 1.80% of Russia’s total exports to Nigeria (5.84% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 over the 4th quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $265,676,115;
  • Paper and paperboard; articles of paper pulp, of paper or of paperboard (HS code 48) - an increase of $5,178,375.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 over the 4th quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Cereals (HS code 10) - a decrease of $41,806,747;
  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - a decrease of $5,251,412;
  • Oil seeds and oleaginous fruits; miscellaneous grains, seeds and fruits; industrial or medicinal plants; straw and fodder (HS code 12) - a decrease of $3,249,908;
  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $2,187,529;
  • Pharmaceutical products (HS code 30) - a decrease of $1,648,515.

Russia’s Imports from Nigeria

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 97.05% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (99.02% in the 4th quarter of 2020);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 2.80% of Russia’s total imports from Nigeria (0.86% in the 4th quarter of 2020).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Nigeria in the 4th quarter of 2021 over the 4th quarter of 2020 were recorded for the following product groups:
