Russia’s Trade with Iceland

In 2011, Russia’s trade with Iceland totaled $208,496,099, up 54.84% ($73,842,409) from 2010.

Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2011 were $11,206,196, down 7.18% ($866,942) from 2010.

Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2011 totaled $197,289,903, up 60.95% ($74,709,351) from 2010.

Russia’s trade deficit with Iceland in 2011 was $186,083,707, a 68.39% increase ($75,576,293) over 2010.

Iceland was Russia’s 98th largest trading partner in 2011 (up from 101st in 2010), accounting for 0.0253% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.0215% in 2010).

Iceland was Russia’s 131st largest export market in 2011 (down from 128th in 2010), accounting for 0.0022% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.0030% in 2010).

Iceland was Russia’s 70th largest supplier in 2011 (up from 74th in 2010), accounting for 0.0645% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.0535% in 2010).

Russia’s Exports to Iceland

The major share of Russian exports to Iceland in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 46.44% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (26.18% in 2010);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 17.72% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (6.28% in 2010);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 16.03% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (57.32% in 2010);
  • Wood and wood products (HS codes 44-49) - 10.51% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (5.20% in 2010);
  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 3.49% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (1.66% in 2010);
  • Textiles, textile products and footwear (HS codes 50-67) - 1.45% of Russia’s total exports to Iceland (2.94% in 2010).

The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Ores, slag and ash (HS code 26) - an increase of $1,990,549;
  • Wood and articles of wood; wood charcoal (HS code 44) - an increase of $547,669;
  • Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $444,595;
  • Electrical machinery and equipment and parts thereof; sound recorders and reproducers, television image and sound recorders and reproducers, and parts and accessories of such articles (HS code 85) - an increase of $444,006;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $326,958;
  • Cereals (HS code 10) - an increase of $264,086;
  • Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $52,491.

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Iceland in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fertilizers (HS code 31) - a decrease of $5,030,815;
  • Wadding, felt and nonwovens; special yarns, twine, cordage, ropes and cables and articles thereof (HS code 56) - a decrease of $213,183;
  • Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $135,711;
  • Tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes (HS code 24) - a decrease of $74,085.

Russia’s Imports from Iceland

The major share of Russian imports from Iceland in 2011 (and in 2010) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 88.85% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (84.71% in 2010);
  • Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 6.98% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (12.96% in 2010);
  • Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 3.18% of Russia’s total imports from Iceland (1.40% in 2010).

The largest gains in Russia’s imports from Iceland in 2011 over 2010 were recorded for the following product groups:

  • Fish and crustaceans, molluscs and other aquatic invertebrates (HS code 03) - an increase of $71,000,379;
  • Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,914,109;
