Russia’s Trade with Brazil
In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Brazil totaled $1,027,822,729, up 29.77% ($235,798,664) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $388,111,701, up 36.53% ($103,848,133) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $639,711,028, up 25.99% ($131,950,531) from the 1st quarter of 2016.
Russia’s trade deficit with Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $251,599,327, a 12.57% increase ($28,102,398) over the 1st quarter of 2016.
Brazil was Russia’s 26th largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 27th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.7995% of Russia’s total trade (down from 0.8159% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Brazil was Russia’s 37th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 39th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.4657% of Russia’s total exports (up from 0.4639% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Brazil was Russia’s 18th largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 1.4148% of Russia’s total imports (down from 1.4185% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
Russia’s Exports to Brazil
The major share of Russian exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 76.33% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (83.03% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 9.34% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (9.28% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 8.75% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.13% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 4.53% of Russia’s total exports to Brazil (1.33% in the 1st quarter of 2016).
The largest gains in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:

- Mineral fuels, mineral oils and products of their distillation; bituminous substances; mineral waxes (HS code 27) - an increase of $14,512,583;
- Optical, photographic, cinematographic, measuring, checking, precision, medical or surgical instruments and apparatus; parts and accessories thereof (HS code 90) - an increase of $6,265,844;
- Articles of iron or steel (HS code 73) - an increase of $5,829,158;
- Nuclear reactors, boilers, machinery and mechanical appliances; parts thereof (HS code 84) - an increase of $3,496,764;
- Vehicles other than railway or tramway rolling stock, and parts and accessories thereof (HS code 87) - an increase of $2,674,256;
- Inorganic chemicals; organic or inorganic compounds of precious metals, of rare-earth metals,of radioactive elements or of isotopes (HS code 28) - an increase of $1,843,618;

The largest declines in Russia’s exports to Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 over the 1st quarter of 2016 were recorded for the following product groups:
- Rubber and articles thereof (HS code 40) - a decrease of $5,324,104;
- Salt; sulfur; earths and stone; plastering materials, lime and cement (HS code 25) - a decrease of $4,641,054;
- Preparations of cereals, flour, starch or milk; bakers’ wares (HS code 19) - a decrease of $1,167,680.

Russia’s Imports from Brazil
The major share of Russian imports from Brazil in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:
- Food products and agricultural raw materials (HS codes 01-24) - 81.02% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (88.64% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Machinery, equipment and vehicles (HS codes 84-90) - 6.28% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (2.35% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Chemical products (HS codes 28-40) - 4.38% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.68% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
- Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 2.54% of Russia’s total imports from Brazil (3.14% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
