Russia’s Trade with Canada

In the 1st quarter of 2017, Russia’s trade with Canada totaled $374,324,877, up 55.36% ($133,381,435) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $98,682,770, up 7.61% ($6,981,704) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s imports from Canada in the 1st quarter of 2017 totaled $275,642,107, up 84.69% ($126,399,731) from the 1st quarter of 2016.

Russia’s trade deficit with Canada in the 1st quarter of 2017 was $176,959,337, a 207.53% increase ($119,418,027) over the 1st quarter of 2016.

Canada was Russia’s 51st largest trading partner in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 57th in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.2912% of Russia’s total trade (up from 0.2482% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 65th largest export market in the 1st quarter of 2017 (just as in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.1184% of Russia’s total exports (down from 0.1496% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Canada was Russia’s 33rd largest supplier in the 1st quarter of 2017 (up from 41st in the 1st quarter of 2016), accounting for 0.6096% of Russia’s total imports (up from 0.4169% in the 1st quarter of 2016).

Russia’s Exports to Canada

The major share of Russian exports to Canada in the 1st quarter of 2017 (and in the 1st quarter of 2016) was accounted for the following product types:

  • Metals and products from them (HS codes 72-83) - 29.18% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (38.87% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
  • Mineral products (HS codes 25-27) - 17.49% of Russia’s total exports to Canada (8.34% in the 1st quarter of 2016);
